Geno Germano

President and Chief Executive Officer

Geno is a 30-year veteran of the pharmaceutical and Life Sciences industry and was most recently President of Intrexon, a leader in the application of synthetic biology across a broad range of market segments.

Mr. Germano has held multiple high-level roles at some of the world's largest and most innovative companies, including Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson and Wyeth. Mr. Germano led Pfizer's Global Innovative Pharmaceutical Business, cultivating a $14 billion operation and guiding the development of an extensive portfolio of products in the cardiovascular, immunology, metabolic disease, neuroscience and rare disease areas. Previously, he was President and General Manager of Pfizer's Specialty Care, Vaccines and Oncology business units.

Prior to joining Pfizer, Mr. Germano held numerous executive and leadership roles at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals including President of Wyeth U.S., President of Global Pharmaceutical and Women's Healthcare Business and Executive Vice President of the Vaccines Business. He has been a member of the Group of Fifty (G50) and served on the Board of the Biotechnology Innovation Organization, where he was a member of the Executive Committee. He continues to serve on the Advisory Board of the Healthcare Businesswomen's Association and is a Director of Sage Therapeutics (NASDAQ:SAGE) and The Medicines Company (NASDAQ:MDCO). Mr Germano received his Bachelor of Sciece degree at the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.

Robert A. Essner

Chairman

Robert Essner is the retired Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Wyeth (now Pfizer).  He was elected President of the Corporation in July 2000, in which capacity he served until April 2006, and also served as Chief Operating Officer of the Corporation between July 2000 and May 2001.  Mr. Essner joined the Corporation in 1989 as Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing. During his tenure at Wyeth Mr. Essner was also Chairman of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America and Chairman of the Dolder Group, a council of leaders of large global pharmaceutical corporations.

A graduate of Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, Mr. Essner received a master’s degree from the University of Chicago.

Currently, Mr. Essner is Executive in Residence and adjunct professor at Columbia Business School.  He is Executive Chairman of Elucida Oncology and a director of Amicus Therapeutics. He is a member of the board of the Children’s Health Fund in New York, Mote Marine Laboratory and Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida. During his career he has served on the boards of MassMutual and other companies.

Ulrich Wiesner, Ph.D.

Director

Dr. Wiesner is a co-founder of Elucida Oncology and co-inventor of the company's core intellectual property. Dr. Wiesner is the Spencer T. Olin Professor of Engineering in the Department of Material Sciences and Engineering at Cornell University and is a Co-Director of the MSKCC-Cornell Center for Translation of Cancer Nanomedicines (MC²TCN), a Center of Cancer Nanotechnology Excellence (CCNE) funded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI). Dr. Wiesner specializes in work at the interface between polymer science and inorganic chemistry and created the original C-Dot particle. The author of over 200 papers and articles, Dr. Wiesner has been recognized with numerous awards, including those from the German Chemical Society and the American Chemical Society.

Robert Ruffolo, Ph.D., D.Sc. (h), D.Eng. (h), F.C.P.P.

Director

Dr. Ruffolo is the retired President of Research and Development for Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, and Corporate Senior Vice President of Wyeth (now Pfizer).  In that role, he managed an R&D organization of 9,000 scientists with an annual budget in excess of $3 billion.  He joined Wyeth in 2000 as Executive Vice President, responsible for Pharmaceutical Research and Development.  Prior to joining Wyeth, Dr. Ruffolo spent 17 years at SmithKline Beecham Pharmaceuticals (now GlaxoSmithKline) where he was Senior Vice President and Director of Biological Sciences, Worldwide.  Before joining SmithKline Beecham, Dr. Ruffolo spent 6 years at Lilly Research Laboratories where he was Chairman of the Cardiovascular Research Committee. During his career in the Pharmaceutical Industry, Dr. Ruffolo played a significant role in the discovery and/or development of a number of marketed products, including Carvedilol (Coreg/Kredex/Dilatrend) for the treatment of congestive heart failure, left ventricular dysfunction following acute myocardial infarction, angina and hypertension, Ropinerole (Requip) for Parkinson's Disease, Dobutamine (Dobutrex) for the management of acute congestive heart failure and Eprosartan (Teveten) for hypertension.

Tim Boris

Director

Tim Boris is an experienced General Counsel and business executive who has served on or been legal advisor to executive and leadership teams in multiple industries. He served as the President of SpendSmart Networks, Inc. from April 19, 2016 until March 2017. Mr. Boris served as General Counsel and Secretary of SpendSmart Networks, Inc. from January 20, 2015 and February 21, 2015, respectively, until March 2017. Mr. Boris previously served as Vice President of Legal Affairs and General Counsel for Restorgenex Corporation (currently Diffusion Pharmaceuticals) from August 2011 until January 19, 2015. He received a Bachelor's of Business Administration from the University of Michigan and a juris doctorate from the University of San Diego School of Law.

David Zaccardelli

Director

Dr. Zaccardelli has been President and CEO of Verona Pharma since February 2020. Previously, he served as President and CEO of Dova Pharmaceuticals from December 2018 until its acquisition by Sobi in November 2019. Dr. Zaccardelli was the Acting CEO of Cempra, Inc. from December 2016 until the company’s merger with Melinta Therapeutics, Inc., in November 2017. From 2004 until 2016, Dr. Zaccardelli served in several senior management roles at United Therapeutics Corporation, including COO, Chief Manufacturing Officer and Executive Vice President, Pharmaceutical Development and Operations. Prior to joining United Therapeutics, he held various positions at Burroughs Wellcome & Co. and Bausch & Lomb Pharmaceuticals. Dr. Zaccardelli received a Pharm.D. from the University of Michigan.

Gary Sender

Director

Mr. Gary Sender was Chief Financial Officer of Nabriva Therapeutics plc, a publicly traded biopharmaceutical company, from 2016 until March 2021 when he retired from the company. Prior to Nabriva, Mr. Sender served as CFO and Executive Vice President at Synergy Pharmaceuticals from 2015 to 2016, and as Senior Vice President, Finance at Shire plc from 2009 until 2015 supporting its Specialty Pharmaceuticals business and subsequently its Global Commercial businesses. He was also the founding CFO of Tengion, Inc., and spent 15 years in several leadership roles within Merck. He also serves on the board of directors of Harmony Biosciences Holdings Inc., Schrodinger Inc., and iBio Inc. Mr. Sender received his B.S. from Boston University and an M.B.A. from Carnegie‑Mellon University.
